On October 7, 2014, RAMP hosted “California Opportunities for Financing Asthma Prevention and Management” in response to the exciting and challenging time for financing asthma prevention and management in the state. While there is a significant body of evidence about the effectiveness of asthma interventions, many are not routinely covered by health plans, including asthma in-home visiting programs and asthma education in non-clinical settings. Most asthma stakeholders have relied upon grant funding for these types of programs and are interested in pursuing sustainable financing sources. Fortunately, the Affordable Care Act, administrative changes, and an increasing emphasis on prevention provide new possibilities for increased program sustainability and better outcomes for patients and families.
During the webinar, speakers described the current financing landscape and provide a menu of opportunities for supporting these interventions. The presenters went into depth on a few of the issues with a lengthy Q&A period afterwards.
