A study, funded by the National Institute of Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, was conducted to determine if a community health worker (CHW) intervention to connect the primary care, home, and school for low-income, minority school-aged children with asthma and their caregivers improves asthma control. In Philadelphia, a randomized clinical trial followed 626 participants over 12 months, combining asthma management, trigger reduction, and care coordination strategies between May 2018 and June 2022. Preliminary results suggested that connecting all lived environments for the care of children can be accomplished through linkages with CHWs.
