In the July 2019 edition of BMC Public Health, researchers examine the effects of community health workers on health outcomes of children with asthma. In order to investigate the impacts, 290 participants were split into an intervention group and a control group. The intervention group received educational intervention led by community health workers. When the outcomes of both groups were compared, “the intervention group showed a significantly greater decrease in asthma attacks than the control group.” The researchers concluded “home-based education by Community Health Workers effectively improve health outcomes among children in communities lacking access to medical resources.”
