A report published in the July, 2022, edition of the Italian Journal of Pediatrics examines whether clinical guidelines for asthma, including The Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), have areas where improvement may be needed. The authors note that while “available guidelines for asthma management represent an important and suitable tool to make the entire medical process evidence-based, effective, and safe for patients…. several studies reported that these recommendations are often not applied in real-life clinical practice, which consequently results in inadequate asthma control.” The authors suggest that “phenotype-driven asthma management may become a desirable approach for optimizing the management of asthmatic patients,” and that digital health strategies may hold promising in patient care.
