Updated AirNow Fire and Smoke Map Released by EPA and Forest Service

In September 2024, the US EPA and Forest Service updated their AirNow Fire and Smoke Map! Originally, the EPA and the Forest Service developed the Fire and Smoke Map to provide the public information on fire locations, smoke plumes, near real-time air quality, Smoke Outlooks for large US wildfires, and protective actions to take that were available all in one place.

The newest version now provides information on:

  • Air quality monitoring information on coarse particle pollution and ozone.
  • More information on individual wildland fires, including the type of fire and level of fire activity.
  • Information from low-cost fine particle sensors in Canada.
  • Activity recommendations, including actions to protect your health, charts on air quality over the past week, and fire occurrences within 30 miles of their locations.

The Fire and Smoke Map is available on the AirNow website and for download on smartphones. The map can also be viewed in Spanish and with a modified AQI color scale for users with certain color vision deficiencies.
